BAGS, BAGS, EVERYWHERE!

Join Take Pride Winnipeg! and Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba as they launch  MMSM Bag Up Manitoba, a program of Take Pride Winnipeg! Inc. Students from Sargent Park School and invited guests will be in attendance at the launch.

Scheduled to speak at the launch are Take Pride Winnipeg!’s Executive Director Tom Ethans and Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba’s Executive Director Karen Melnychuk.

This program will run throughout the month of October, where school students across Manitoba are encouraged to collect plastic bags for recycling into herb boxes for their schools. The program, which began in 2008, has kept over seven million plastic bags from the landfill to date.

Schools are encouraged to share photos of their progress and learn more about plastic bag reduction in their classrooms throughout the program. Benches, made using plastic bags, will be awarded by random draw to fourteen participating schools.

The community at large can also become involved by contacting their local school to see if they will accept additional bags from the public. The 2015 program collected over 1.4 million bags from 160 schools in Manitoba.
