Take Pride Winnipeg! Inc. Street-Shaming 2013

Today, Take Pride Winnipeg! released the results of its annual Litter Index.

The Litter Index is rated 1 to 4, with a score of 1 representing no litter, and a score of 4 representing extremely littered. The city of Winnipeg was divided into 12 areas and streets in each area were rated (with the pre-campaign results listed here). The average score for Winnipeg as a whole was 2.23 in April 2013.

“Because of spring’s late arrival, volunteer cleanup crews haven’t been out in full force yet,” says Tom Ethans, executive director, Take Pride Winnipeg!. “There are a lot of littered streets, and we need all Winnipeggers to do their part in cleaning them up.”

Tim Hortons Team Up to Clean Up campaign aims to beautify the community through the efforts of thousands of volunteers picking up litter in their neighbourhoods. Take Pride Winnipeg! will provide free garbage bags to any community group, family, business or school who wishes to join the team. To date, over 20,000 volunteers have registered their spring cleanups. It is estimated that over 40,000 will register in total.

To register your cleanup, please visit the Team Up to Clean Up page . Cleanup groups can ask to be promoted on Take Pride Winnipeg!’s Facebook page, which will be updated frequently for those wishing to join cleanups in progress in their neighbourhood.
