Painting with Pride!

Help us to spread the word about our upcoming Brush Up Winnipeg program. Do you know a homeowner who fits the bill? Would your company like to get involved? We need qualified applicants and corporate/community paint teams!

The 2013 Brush Up Winnipeg program, sponsored by Manitoba Public Insurance and Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba, aims to beautify the community by painting the exterior of homes around Winnipeg. Homes are selected based on financial or physical restraints of the home owner. Since the program's inception, 59 homes have been painted. This year's goal is to paint 10 homes.

How it works:

Homeowners can apply via application form in the Winnipeg Free Press (March 16, 23 and 30) or online.

In order to be eligible to apply, you must be 65 years of age or older OR have a permanent disability AND own and reside in the home that needs painting. For full home selection criteria, please visit the Brush Up Winnipeg page. Applications are being accepted until April 5, 2013. We are interested in full exteriors in need of a paint job. If your home is mostly vinyl siding or brick and only needs trim painting, this isn't an example of the type of project we are looking for.

Once all applications are received, the houses are viewed and further interviewing of the homeowners occurs. A final eligibility list will be determined, and teams of corporate and community group volunteers will select their homes. There is no cost to homeowners selected for the program.

Homeowners will be consulted on new paint colours for their home and be informed on which day their home will be painted. Teams of corporate and community group volunteers will do the painting in two, one-day large-scale Paint Days, June 22, 2013 and September 7, 2013.

The cost for a Paint Team to be involved is $500, plus a commitment of approximately 25 volunteers. If you don't have enough volunteers, but still wish to be involved, we may be able to match you with another company. T shirts, paint, lunch and other supplies are provided for the paint teams. For more details on how your corporate or community team can get involved, please email Mary Gloor. It is an excellent team-building activity!

Why we run this program:

Brush Up Winnipeg is one way to improve the curb appeal of our city. When you provide a fresh coat of paint to a house on a street, it not only adds to the homeowner's enjoyment of their residence, it also inspires others in the block to make improvements to their own properties. We have seen neighbours of selected houses come out to see the action in play, mow their lawns and start maintenance projects on their own properties--sometimes while we are still there painting!

Brush Up Winnipeg is an excellent team-building activity for corporate teams. It provides them a chance to interact with fellow employees outside the workplace, while helping someone in need. Paint Day includes a lot of sweat and laughter!

Take Pride Winnipeg! is pleased to acknowledge Manitoba Public Insurance and Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba as Title Sponsors of this year’s program. Other major partners include Winnipeg Free Press, Western Paint and City of Winnipeg.
