Who We Are

Take Pride Winnipeg! is a registered Canadian charity whose mission is to inspire community pride, raise public awareness and promote citizen responsibility in making the city of Winnipeg clean and beautiful. Through special funding, the organization is able to offer some of its programs province-wide and support our programming all year long. As a registered charity, we can issue tax receipts for donations.

Please be advised that all programming is temporarily suspended while staff are furloughed due to Covid-19.  We expect this suspension to last March 25-May 5.  Please check back for updates, and in the meantime, you may reach out to our Executive Director, Tom Ethans, with questions/concerns:  tom@takepride.mb.ca or 204 792 5464

In the interim, we ask all of you to help carry our mission:

Help a friend or neighbour in need.

Take a bucket or bag with you on your daily walks, and pick up litter. Remember to wear gloves!

Spread messages of hope and goodwill in your neighbourhood—use sidewalk chalk to write a message or create a cheerful drawing, or show off your crafty side with window art.

Take care of each other.

"Winnipeg—A Clean City" was adopted by Winnipeg City Council on May 10, 1989 as a program to enhance the overall beauty of the city. The main driving force behind this initiative was a partnership between the City and a national waste management company. On May 15, 1991, Take Pride Winnipeg! Inc. was founded to oversee the program. The purpose of the organization was to "establish a permanent body with civic, business and public representation to maintain an ongoing program that will keep the city of Winnipeg clean and beautiful."

In 1997, a new executive director and executive assistant were hired to revamp the organization and set it on a new course. Take Pride Winnipeg! became a completely separate entity from the City and was prepared to oversee all of its existing and new programs. The new vision for the organization was "Winnipeg…proud, clean and beautiful." Over the years, the litter cleanup campaign was expanded, new education programming was developed, Take Pride Winnipeg! became a founding member of the T.A.G. (Together Against Graffiti) Team and the mural program grew dramatically. Currently, Take Pride Winnipeg! employs three full-time staff running twelve to fourteen programs per year.

In recent years, the organization has been asked to run expanded youth summer employment programs, a house-painting and a snow-clearing program for low-income seniors, and education programming focussing on recycling and single-use plastics. Provincial and federal funding in some years has allowed for the expansion of education and litter cleanup programming to other areas of Manitoba, including First Nations communities.

Take Pride Winnipeg! is a member of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and a partner in Clean Canada Together.
