Take Pride Winnipeg!'s annual cleanup campaign, Tim Hortons Team Up to Clean Up, consists of a spring and a fall component. It involves thousands of school children, community groups, businesses, civic employees and individual volunteers. Participants pick up litter using litter bags supplied by Take Pride Winnipeg! . They also help to paint over graffiti, plant trees, and learn about recycling, re-using and reducing waste. This campaign's focus is to educate and engage Winnipeggers in various activities that they can participate in to keep Winnipeg clean and beautiful.
The spring campaign runs mid-April through June and in 2009, close to 35,000 volunteers were involved. The fall campaign, which runs throughout the month of October, involved roughly 15,000 volunteers in 2009. The goal for 2010 is to have 40,000 volunteers for the spring campaign and 18,000 in the fall. We encourage citizens of Winnipeg, East St. Paul, West St. Paul and Headingley to Team Up to Clean Up and keep their neighbourhoods clean and beautiful.
A litter index is completed prior to and following the spring campaign, to evaluate the success of the event. Some common problem areas for litter include major thoroughfares, especially along fence lines, and this is where the most dramatic results are seen.
Do you want to participate in a cleanup already planned? Click here to check out the community cleanup event board. This list is updated weekly, as cleanup events are registered.

Attention Schools: The campaign holds a special kick-off event just for you in April each year! It celebrates the efforts of school children across the city who participate in litter cleanups. Schools will be receiving information on this event, so be sure to ask your principal for more information, or contact our Youth Programs Coordinator, Jorge Orellana.
The effects of the litter cleanup campaigns are far-reaching. Schools, community organizations, individuals, business improvement zones, local businesses and City departments all participate to keep the city clean. In addition to these cleanup campaigns, there are some groups who request litter bags on a year-round basis from Take Pride Winnipeg! If your community group is involved with a number of cleanups throughout the year, and you are in need of litter bags, please email louie@takepride.mb.ca with your cleanup details.
